Our First & Second Years

Home Our First & Second Years

Our Formative Years 2016 & 2017

In our first year from March 2016 we were ourselves homeless, making sandwiches and hot drinks and delivering them by hand to the rough sleepers in the various doorways around the Town Centre. This continued for a number of months as our volunteer numbers continued to grow. Over the Christmas period of 2016 and throughout 2017 we managed to seek refuge in local churches where we were able to cook hot, nutritious meals and offer a warm, safe place to socialise and seek help and support. During 2016 and 2017 each year we facilitated the following.

  • distributed approx. 2100 snacks/drinks
  • Developed our night café service where we have served approx. 3600 meals
  • have supplied 1800 emergency food packs for rough sleepers
  • have made 200 deliveries of meals/snacks to hostels
  • have supplied 2700 sets of toiletries to the homeless and hostels
  • have arranged 20 workshop/sessions with schools to raise awareness of homelessness
  • have made 500 pickups of food from our supporters
  • We contribute to the support of 4 hostels
  • In total, between the hostels, outreach and café we support around 350 people per week

July 2018 to Present Day

We opened our Hub at end of July 2018, this has enabled us to expand our resources and open through the day to offer support and advice alongside our night café service. We open 5 days and 4 nights a week offering a full wrap around support and advice service as well as preparing and serving hot meals and drinks. Whist in the Hub we have set up various programs and services. Please visit our Hub page for more detailed information on the weekly diary of programs we deliver.

Whist in the Hub we have achieved more than we imagined.

Over 10,000 meals prepared for clients using our night café and over 5000 meals served during our drop in services throughout the day. Our service users have received over 500 haircuts in our first year in the Hub.

Over Christmas 2018 with the help of the local community including schools, businesses, councillors, local services including the Police, Fire Brigade, Paramedics and the fantastic local people we collected, assembled, wrapped and delivered over 350 family sized Christmas hampers and 400 plus gifts of toys to children in need.

During Easter 2019 again with the help of the local community and our supporters at Tesco we donated over 1300 Easter Eggs to children in local schools and groups throughout the borough.

In April 2019 we attended the Homeless Games in Liverpool for the first time. Joining forces with CGL and the YMCA we were successful in many of the events winning golds, silvers and bronze, topped the medal table and came away with the inaugural team award. Over 60 service users attended and we are looking forward to defending our titles next year.

We continue to support 3 primary schools in St Helens with 8 trays containing food and toiletries each month which has been described as a lifeline for some of the 30 families it supports per month in each of the schools.
